Dreams: A Short Film

At the 1MISSION gala on November 6, we premiered Dreams, a short film that I made with my friend David Trujillo.

Among friends, I’ll level with you: making the film involved buckets of sweat and more than a few tears. Fortunately no blood was shed, but there were moments the whole shebang felt impossible, cursed, doomed to fail. It was way too ambitious, way too complicated, way too many moving pieces. But in the end, we got it done. We got it done on time and we got it done together. And you know what? I’m proud of it.

Watching Dreams with 350 people in cocktail attire at the Phoenix Art Museum a month ago was special. We raised a lot of money that night and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a successful event by every measure.

But that wasn’t the high-water mark for me. Even better was returning to Puerto Peñasco a couple of weeks later, where we invited the families that participated in the project to a small celebration at an event space in town. After a lot of face-painting and bounce-housing and delicious Sonoran BBQ, we thanked the kids and their parents for entrusting us with their stories, their dreams. And then we turned off the lights and watched the film together. It was a sacred time. I won’t soon forget it.

I’d be honored if you’d take five minutes to watch Dreams. Heck, pass it along if you’re so moved. Would mean the world to me.
