Sing, Unburied, Sing

Jesmyn Ward's evocative new novel Sing, Unburied, Sing was named a finalist this week for the National Book Award. Virtually every review of the book includes the word "haunted" and invokes Faulkner and Morrison. Because I am a rebel I won't do either of those things. Instead I'll just say I wouldn't be surprised if folks are still talking about it and reading it decades from now. It's a novel that captures the zeitgeist of our present moment, something that's probably not very easy to do.
