The Rock That is Higher

The Rock That is Higher: Story as Truth was first published in 1993, when Madeleine L'Engle was in her mid-seventies. It’s an odd, somewhat rambling book by the enigmatic author of the science fiction classic A Wrinkle in Time.

At the heart of this book is a near-fatal car accident she survived two years beforehand. Her prolonged recovery occasions an imaginative, unconventional (some might say unorthodox) engagement with the biblical narrative. When she's not repeating her soapboxes – truth and fact are not the same thing; the United States Postal Service is no longer in the business of delivering mail – she's reflecting on the importance of Morning and Evening Prayer in her daily life, or sharing astute tips for young writers.

Yeah, as I said, it's an odd book. You can't say you weren't warned.
